Music Review: "While We Wait" By Kehlani

Kehlani’s new album, “While We Wait” is short, sweet, and to the point. She took a page out of Kanye’s playbook with nine songs (about five of them are 3mins or less). The concept behind the album is amazing. She lets you inside the mind of a woman going through various situations of a relationship. I recommend taking 25-30mins out your day to listen to the less ratchet/trill side of Kehlani and vibe out!

Footsteps (feat. Musiq Soulchild)

Thinking about a relationship that ended. Honest lyrics about the circumstances the relationship encountered, the intent when leaving, and the impression it left.

Too Deep

Acknowledging when a strictly physically relationship is getting too deep. She gets straight to the point, warning the guy why he really doesn’t want be with her and how it could all end badly.

Nunya (feat. Dom Kennedy)

Reminding an ex that what you do and who you do it with is none of their business.

Morning Glory

Enlightening her beau that if he doesn’t want her when all the glitz/glamour is over then he won’t have her when she wakes up to dominate the next day.

Feels

Amerie, 2002 “Why Don’t We Fall in Love” vibes! This jam is about realizing you have feelings for that special someone.

Nights Like This (feat. Ty Dolla $ign)

This vibe is about missing an ex. Wondering if they’d answer and reminiscing about the good time.

RPG (feat. 6lack)

You can definitely ride out to this song! They lyrics express a woman wanting a guy to let his guard down and be more vulnerable.

Butterfly

Sexy-chill beat. Elaborates on how sweet the good moments of a relationship can be and yet still needing more. She ends the song with a lil spoken word (soft rap) that adds a cool nostalgic twist.

Love Language

You will definitely catch a vibe and the beat will leave you dancing. The song confesses that she wants to dedicate time to really get to know her boo, all of him.
