Kiami Davael Talks Playing the Role of Lavender in Matlida, Higher Education, and the Power of the Lord.
Kiami Davael receiving the role of Lavender in the film Matlida was “one of the most memorable experiences” of her life. At the age of three she knew that not only her passion but her purpose lied in the entertainment business. Davael envisioned herself as the next Whitney Houston. Like any other child in the beginning stages of their dreams, she attached herself to the greatest living example of her desire. We all have done it. However, it’s important not to neglect the unique creativity that burns within. Acknowledge what makes you different, analyze how your individuality sticks out from others. Once you recognize it then you can nurture it. “My mom, my rock, told me that I couldn't be Whitney because God only made one of those, but I could make a promise to myself to be the best Kiami I could be. And from that moment on, I knew the best version of myself always shines through in front of the camera”.
Although higher education may not be for everyone, Davael saw fit to pursue a college education. “I believe that higher education is extremely important. I believe it is the beginning of the rest of your life. I feel that it provides opportunities that may otherwise never present themselves. I have a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Psychology & a Minor in Theater. I love to learn. I knew that going to college would give me valuable life experiences that has continued to bear weight to this day. I wanted to be sure that I had a back up plan. No matter what happened in my world of entertainment, I have another option to create the life I've always dreamed of.”
When you think about ‘America the Great’ it’s easy to think about all the homelessness, poverty-stricken communities, drama, hatred, and lets not mention the increasing amount of suicide. And to think, this is the norm. How often do we stop and think about what we can do to cease the outrage. “I think that the world needs less conformity to societal standards”. Davael’s words forced me to think, if people controlled their thoughts and monitored the energy they project into the world it would inevitably become a better place.
Our poor youth. Lost with no idea on how to figure out their individuality. “Unfortunately, the youth is trying to fulfill the desires of the world”. How are kids suppose to strive for greatness when they don't know where your interests lie? “They are afraid to follow their dreams because someone in their clique might not think it’s dope enough. Their friends may think they’re crazy for dreaming so big and wanting too much. Also, I believe that youth have been, in some facets, made to believe that because of their background or where they come from, they can never be what God wants them to be. That couldn’t be further from the truth. We can be and do anything we want when we stay focused and dream big”. It takes a strong mind to create opportunities, but the power is in all of us, not just some.
