Music Review: Marissa's EP "This Is Me"
Marissa’s “This is Me” EP reminds millennials what RnB feels like. She’s providing you with genuine feelings and frequencies unmatched by singers currently out today. The authentic vibe that’s a well blend of what nostalgia taught us and the many layers that engulf the everyday Black Girl Magic. Below is a breakdown of the EP.
Baby:
The beat to this song is smooth and uncomplicated. The lyrics are transparent, relatable, insecure/petty, yet controlling and slightly possessive. Marissa taps into the mental when you’re amid the various emotions that are preventing a relationship to evolve.
Only 1:
Marissa continues the vibe with another smooth and uncomplicated beat. She showed more vocal range and leaves you feeling accomplished and stimulating. The melody will have you riding a sexy beat while the lyrics are reminding these niggas that you’re bringing something to the table. Ladies, you should definitely add this to your “getting dressed” mix.
Ammo:
The RnB vibes continue with a smooth yet playful beat. Kind of 90’s…Moesha…type of vibe. This is a boss chick record, with lyrics highlighting the women working, grinding, and staying true to themselves. When a woman like this is told no then better believe that fuels the intensity behind her purpose.
Fight It:
If I had to choose, then this would be my favorite song! The lyrics represent the frustration of wanting the guy you’re crushing on to acknowledge the connection between y’all. The melody is flirty and fun. Marissa also rides the beat a little, giving the ladies an opportunity to twerk a lil somethin’!
